Physician Information

Charles E. Crutchfield III, MD is a native of Twin Cities. He was born in Minneapolis and grew up in the Highland Park area of St. Paul. He attended Highland Park and Minnehaha Academy high schools. He has a Bachelors degree from Carleton College. He graduated from the Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Medicine with both a Masters degree in Molecular Biology and Doctoral degree (M.D.) in Medicine. His post-graduate medical training included one year at the Gundersen Clinic and a three year Dermatology residency at the University of Minnesota. He is certified by the American Board of Dermatology.

Discovering, Teaching and Sharing With Colleagues
Dr. Crutchfield is a Clinical Associate Professor of Dermatology at the University of Minnesota Medical School. Dr. Crutchfield is actively involved in medical student, resident and community physician education. He has won several teaching awards including a recognition award from the Medical School and the Student national Medical Association for his significant contributions towards Minority medical education. He also has a current appointment as a visiting Professor of Biology at Carleton College.

Dr. Crutchfield has a vibrant and award winning private practice of Dermatology, Crutchfield Dermatology and Spa located in Eagan Minnesota with over 25,000 patients. He actively conducts research on psoriasis, anti-oxidant skin rejuvenation products, and cosmetic products in ethnic skin. He has a U.S. patent on a dermatology medication for psoriasis. His medical practice was the first dermatology practice to use electronic medical records in Minnesota and the first in the United States to offer complimentary Wi-Fi for patients in his office and reception area.

Dr. Crutchfield specializes in ethnic skin care concerns, psoriasis, acne, vitiligo, pediatric dermatology, laser surgery and cosmetic dermatology. He is an avid clinical photographer and is an expert contributor to LogicalImages.com, a web-based image and medical information program. He is regularly invited to appear on numerous television and radio programs discussing skin care issues.

Dr. Crutchfield has co-authored a textbook of dermatology "A Clinical Atlas (and textbook) of 101 Common Skin Diseases" (with Bernie Ackerman, MD) and has over 100 peer-reviewed and editorially reviewed publications. He is a locally, nationally and internationally recognized dermatology lecturer.

Dr. Crutchfield is a Diplomat of both the American Board of Dermatology and the United States National Board of Medical Examiners. He is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, American Society of Cosmetic and Aesthetic Surgery, Women’s Dermatologic Society, North American Society for Aesthetic Lipodissolve, American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, American Society of Dermatologic Surgery, O’Leary Dermatologic Society, National Medical Association, American Medical Association, Minnesota Dermatologic Society, Minnesota Medical Association, East Metro Medical Society; Doctors Mayo Society, Mayo Alumni Association and the Minnesota Association of Black Physicians.
