The HCAC is a first of its kind in the region.

Dr. Fawzi al-Hamouri, Deputy Chairman of the Council, stated:

'We are witnessing today the first independent HCAC in the Arab world globally accredited to meet the requirements of the International Society for Quality in health care, assuring that this council will set a model for excellence in the region and will help contribute in the national effort to provide effective health care facilities and program standards dependent on improving health care medical services, revising and amending program standards, facilitating day-to-day operational procedures, enhancing competition spirit among hospitals, ensuring the optimal level of quality and safety, thus hopefully obtaining the maximum level of satisfaction amongst beneficiaries.'

Ms. May Abu Hamdia, Council Chief Executive Officer, stated that obtaining accreditation is not really our target but is a way to keep the high quality standards of services offered as well as is also a way to facilitate comparison with international organizations. She also reiterated, accreditation, in most countries of the world as in Jordan is optional, but due to the market competition and the Insurance Companies requirements, the increased awareness of people receiving the services make it difficult not to obtain accreditation.

Dr. Fawzi al-Hamouri, Deputy Chairman of HCAC, stated that the increased efforts which led to establishing the council is a promising sign of cooperation between all health sectors in the country.

Mr. Edward Chapi, International Advisor in Quality and Health Care Services, emphasized that accreditation and compliance with international standards are very important steps towards improving quality services and customers' safety and continued by saying that in all countries of the world evaluation of health services by an outside entity is considered to be the best method to enhance the patient's trust and satisfaction.

The Director of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) commended the accomplishment of this project which was financed by USAID and demanded that we preserve this project which we are very proud of and thanked all those who have participated in making it a reality.

At the end of the HCAC launch ceremony, which was attended by representatives from various health sectors in the country, business men, media and NGOs, H.E. the Minister of Health presented accreditation certificates to the first two hospitals which have been granted accreditation by the Council namely, The Specialized Hospital and Al-Urdun Hospital.
